Election Story Time

Miss Alicia knows that this is a VERY special day and so she wanted to read a special book. So join her in reading “One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote” by Bonnie Worth; illustrated by Aristides Ruiz and Joe Mathieu and published by Random House Books.

With this special day we wanted to also have a special craft to show our love for our country. This craft will also work for Veteran’s Day which is coming up quickly.

Patriotic Wreath

You will need:

Tape – double sided is recommended.

4 SQUARE pieces each of red, white, and blue paper (we just used construction paper)

Cardboard circle (size will depend on the size you made your cones) & enough to make a star. An empty cereal box will work.

Tacky glue

Aluminum Foil

String

Instructions:

  1. To make a paper cone, roll the paper into a cone shape and tape together
  2. Place a strip of double-sided tape on the back of each cone. Lay the cones in alternating colors on the cardboard circle and press to adhere. Turn the wreath over and secure each cone to the back with a piece of tape.
  3. Cut a star out of a piece of cardstock or cardboard. Size will depend on your wreath size. Cover the star with the aluminum foil and smooth all the wrinkles out. Apply glue to the back and press onto the center of your wreath and let it dry.
  4. To hang the wreath, make a loop from the string and tape it to the back of the cardboard.
